Hi.

The FPS Question

The following information is based on my personal observations and some logic.

What is FPS?

The Frames Per Second (FPS) is the number of frames that the Player sees each second on the screen.

Why the FPS is important?

The amount of Frames Per Second is important because it is one of the main factors of the smooth and good Counter-Strike 1.6 experience, more skillz.

Low FPS = Bad Counter-Strike 1.6 Experience

The Correct FPS = The Good Counter-Strike 1.6 Experience

Too High FPS = The Less Good Counter-Strike 1.6 Experience

What is the Correct FPS?

The Correct FPS:

Your Monitor's Screen Refresh Rate (In Hertz (Hz)) + fps_max "Your Monitor's Screen Refresh Rate"

In this scenario there are no Excess Frames shown by the monitor in a way of putting those Excess Frames on top of the Normal Frames, which results in some strange performance (I don't know). The Normal Frames represent the monitor's Refresh Rate.

What about the Low FPS?

The Low FPS is basically the bad performance of the Counter-Strike 1.6, the laggy performance, which is the inability of the PC to get the all possible frames up to the FPS Limit.

What about the Too High FPS?

The Too High FPS is any fps_max value that is more than the monitor's Refresh Rate.

Some monitors have an option to chose the monitor's Refresh Rate (somewhere in the monitor settings).

Is there anything else?

Yes, there is.

I have noticed that some Players play the Counter-Strike 1.6 with the Fluctuating FPS (without the fps_max Console Command), I consider it to be not good because in that case the performance of the Counter-Strike 1.6 for the Player is not consistent.

Not consistent?

Yes, this means if you look at a big group of Players, you will have less Frames Per Second than in the case where you look at a wall.

This FPS inconsistency results in the adverse effect on the Player's shooting technique. With the Fluctuating FPS the Player's shooting is each time slightly different (because of the difference in the FPS).

So what do you suggest?

For the Players with the Fluctuating FPS I suggest finding out their monitor's Refresh Rate and implementing the fps_max "Monitor's Refresh Rate Value" Console Command.

Or just setting the FPS Limit (the fps_max Console Command) that corresponds to the Player's Counter-Strike 1.6 performance without the FPS drops.

Personally, I use the following FPS settings to play the Counter-Strike 1.6:

fps_override 1
fps_max "120"
gl_vsync "1"

The fps_override 1 Console Command allows the Player to get the FPS above the Counter-Strike's 1.6 Default FPS Limit, which is the 100.

Wait, wait. What about the Old School 60 Hertz Monitor Refresh Rate + fps_max 101?

This configuration provides some screen tearing, but to achieve the 100 FPS on a 60 Hertz monitor, the Player needs to disable the Vertical Synchronization (VSYNC) for the Counter-Strike 1.6 Game in the NVIDIA Control Panel, or the Player can have the smooth 60 FPS Counter-Strike 1.6 experience, provided that his PC can handle the maintaining of the 60 FPS.

Hopefully, this information will be of some use to someone.

No, it's just some NEED-TO-KNOW information.
Because I see some Players playing the Counter-Strike 1.6 250-300 inconstant FPS.
In general, this information is useful, and it is an absolute win if some Common Player found out something useful.
Personally, if I was a noob and came across this topic, I would had saved me so much time and effort.

There is a decent amount of noobs playing on the Fleshas.LT Public Server, one day they might join the Forum and read this information that will help them.
I don't see anything wrong with helping the noobs.
